How to Organise Your Home in 3 Simple Steps

The Boutique Housekeeping approach to beautifully organised spaces.

There's something wonderfully satisfying about opening a cupboard and finding everything exactly where it belongs.
No rummaging.
No overflowing shelves.
No wondering where something has gone.
Just a beautifully organised space that makes everyday life a little easier.
At Boutique Housekeeping, we believe that organising your home isn't about getting rid of everything you own or creating a minimalist show home.
It's about making your home work beautifully for you.
And there's a surprisingly simple way to achieve it.
We call it Vision. Edit. Style. — our three-step approach to creating spaces that are as practical as they are beautiful.
Step 1: VISION — Start with how you want to feel
Before you empty a drawer, buy another storage basket or start deciding what to throw away, stop.
This is arguably the most important part of the whole process.
Ask yourself three questions:
What do I want this space to look and feel like?
What is its purpose? How do I want it to work?
What currently frustrates me that I'd love to change?
Perhaps your utility room has become a dumping ground for everything that doesn't have a home. You'd love it to be an organised, welcoming space where laundry is easy to manage and everything you need is close to hand.
Or perhaps your wardrobe is so full that getting dressed in the morning feels like another job before your day has even begun.
Imagine how you'd like that space to look when you've finished. Picture opening the door and feeling a sense of pleasure rather than frustration.
Hold on to that vision.
Because when you reach the next stage, and the decisions become a little more difficult, remembering what you're working towards will help you keep going.
Step 2: EDIT — Decide what deserves a place
Now it's time to get everything out.
Yes, everything!
It's often surprising just how much we accumulate in cupboards, drawers and rooms without really noticing.
With the space empty, take each item and make one of three decisions:
1. Let go. You no longer need it, use it or love it. It's time for it to find a new home or be responsibly recycled.
2. Keep, but not here. It's useful or meaningful, but it doesn't belong in this particular space.
3. Keep here. It serves the purpose of the space and deserves to stay.
This sounds straightforward, but it's often the hardest part.
We become attached to things. We keep items because they might be useful one day, because they were expensive or simply because they've always been there.
Remember your vision. You're not getting rid of things for the sake of it. You're making room for the space you actually want.
Our 24-hour rule
Here's one of our favourite organising tips.
Aim to get everything you've decided to let go of out of your home within 24 hours.
Take donations to the charity shop, arrange recycling or organise collection.
Otherwise, there's a very real danger that your newly organised cupboard simply creates a pile of clutter somewhere else.
And that's not progress.
Step 3: STYLE — Make it a pleasure to use
Now for the really enjoyable part.
Before anything goes back, give the empty space a thorough clean.
Then start putting back the items you've chosen to keep.
But don't just put everything back wherever it fits.
Think like a window dresser creating a beautiful shop display.
Consider how things look together. Group similar items. Use attractive baskets, containers and dividers.
Make the things you use most frequently easy to reach.
You don't need to spend a fortune on storage. Often, simply arranging what you already have thoughtfully can make an enormous difference.
The aim is to combine beauty with practicality.
Imagine opening your linen cupboard to find neatly folded towels, beautifully arranged bedding and everything in its place.
Or walking into your utility room and finding clear surfaces, organised shelves and a sense of calm.
It's a small pleasure, but one that you can enjoy every single day.
At Boutique Housekeeping, we have a phrase for that wonderful feeling when a space is beautifully organised.
It's like windscreen wipers on the soul.
The visual noise disappears. Everything feels clearer. And somehow, you feel a little lighter too.
How to organise your home example: create a spa-like sanctuary in your bathroom
Imagine transforming your bathroom from a practical, everyday space into a peaceful sanctuary worthy of a beautiful spa.
Here's how to do it using our Vision. Edit. Style. approach.
Vision:
Close your eyes and imagine stepping into your favourite luxury spa. Beautifully folded towels, clear surfaces, soft lighting and a wonderful sense of calm.
Think about what you'd love to change in your own bathroom.
Perhaps it's the overflowing toiletries, cluttered cupboards or simply the feeling that the space could be so much more inviting.
Edit:
Empty the cupboards, drawers and shelves.
Check expiry dates, discard products you no longer use and remove anything that doesn't belong.
Be decisive about the half-empty bottles and products you've been keeping just in case.
Remember our 24-hour rule: don't let the things you're letting go of become clutter somewhere else.
Style:
Give everything a thorough clean before putting back only what you've chosen to keep.
Arrange everyday essentials neatly in drawers or beautiful storage baskets.
Fold or roll fluffy towels, decant suitable products into attractive containers and consider adding a small vase of flowers, a beautiful soap dispenser or a candle.
Keep surfaces as clear as possible, allowing the room to feel spacious and restful.
The finishing touch?
Think about the senses.
Soft towels, a beautiful fragrance and gentle lighting can turn even the simplest bathroom into somewhere that feels special.
Now imagine walking into that bathroom at the end of a long day. Instead of seeing another space that needs your attention, you're greeted by somewhere that invites you to relax.
That's the difference between simply tidying a room and creating a space that genuinely enhances your everyday life.
