How to motivate yourself to achieve more.
If you’re striving for success but always feel that you can’t quite get there, you might be surprised to learn that making tiny changes to your habits can have phenomenal results. After years of working in the homes of successful people, we have picked up some great tips. The 1% rule is one of the best!
The 1% rule can and should be applied to all areas of your life, but it’s in the domestic setting that you can make a huge difference to your mental health and happiness. Nothing drags us down more than a messy and disorganised home. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the thought of a huge tidy up, a deep clean or a mammoth de-clutter try just going a few steps further or taking 10 seconds longer…Just 1% more.
Here are some examples:
1. Make your bed every morning. 10 seconds to shake your duvet, plump up the pillows and it’s done.
2. Check your bedroom before you leave it in the morning. A few steps to pick up the glass from the bedside table and pop
any dirty clothes into the laundry basket. Have a space in your wardrobe for half worn clothes.
3. Wipe over the bathroom. Keep a microfibre cloth in your bathroom to wipe over the sink and stop it getting ingrained with dirt.
4. Keep a squeegee in the shower to quickly wipe down the glass after each time you go in.
5. Pickup that thing! We all do it- we see something is in the wrong place and think I’ll put it away later. Just do it now. A few steps, a few seconds… a tidy house.
6. Before you go shopping make a list. The more duplicate items you have, the less space to keep your cupboards tidy.
7. When you’ve been shopping empty and wipe over the fridge before you put the new food in. Throw out of date food away, bring the food that needs eating first near to the front.
8. Shoes– don’t fall over shoes anymore. A basket by the door. They go in there.
9. Empty the dishwasher every morning. This takes a few minutes and prevents the sink pile that will undoubtedly occur during the day if not.
10. Empty the bins. No one enjoys it. It will only get worse and it will start to smell.
Remember the key to the 1% rule is to make small changes. Don’t be tempted to do all of these at once. Pick one, try it, see if it makes you feel better. Then try the next. Small incremental changes can change your world.
